The Loneliness Project: Dr. Lisa Albright Combats the Crisis Through Social Change

Loneliness has emerged as a critical concern affecting both mental and physical well-being. On May 3, 2023, the US Surgeon General issued a statement acknowledging that loneliness had reached a crisis level. Recognizing the urgency of the situation, Lisa Albright, PhD, LPCMH, IOUF alumnus, to address the loneliness crisis.

Drawing from her experience as a therapist working with “at risk” adolescents, substance abuse recovery, community counseling, and trauma therapy, Dr. Albright values the importance of providing support to vulnerable individuals. She has embarked on an Instagram initiative known as The Loneliness Project, which encourages individuals to reconnect, minimize the reliance on social media, and prioritize real social interaction. The Project promotes the creation of new relationships, increases involvement in group activities, strengthens and/or reconnects with supportive individuals, reduces isolation, and highlights self-care.

Dr. Albright’s status as Mrs. Delaware 2023 has given her a unique platform to promote and fundraise for various causes, especially those relating to mental health. She is able to reach a broader audience, allowing her to raise awareness for social issues and inspire people to take action. The Loneliness Project serves as a beacon of hope for those grappling with loneliness.
