IOU Foundation Contributes to Reforestation in S.Pablo Etla Oaxaca

President Sandra Hurlong represented IOU Foundation on July 17, 2011 in a major reforestation project undertaken by the residents of San Pablo Etla, Oaxaca, Mexico. With the assistance of experts in Mexico, the local community, and volunteers from abroad, a program of careful multispecies tree planting has begun. This is being done in such a way as to extend and preserve the diversity of the surrounding mountain forests.

In addition to furthering its stewardship of the communal forests with tree plantings, the San Pablo community has created a community center for forestry studies and recreation. During the spring of 2011, the community, with international help, created a look out that would allow people to see the progress of the reforestation project and to enjoy the views of the valleys and mountains. Hiking trails have been laid out and are gradually being improved.

IOU Foundation supports San Pablo Etla in the renewal of its forests and its efforts to combat deforestation in this region of Mexico.
