IOUF: Distance Learning and the Global Village

As a distance learning educational foundation focused on social change, the Intercultural Open University Foundation (IOUF) has fielded many questions over the years about our degree programs. We are unusual in the world and we serve a unique segment of the global village: people who want to use their graduate and post-graduate degrees in the service of mankind.

There is an increasing interest in this type of pursuit, and many universities are just now starting to pay attention to the value of distance education as it relates to social change; the IOU Foundation, by contrast, has been proudly carrying the banner in this field for more than three decades.

Our educational partnerships with the Universidad Azteca and the Universidad Central de Nicaragua reinforce our dedication to distance education for social change. Both of these universities are fully accredited by their respective governments and the degree concentrations that the IOUF offers carry the official designation of validity of study, —the Reconocimiento de Validez Oficial de Estudios (RVOE).

Both the Universidad Azteca and the Universidad Central de Nicaragua are listed in the United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) handbook and in the International Associations of Universities (IAU). The term “Universidad” is legally protected and reserved for universities with at least five RVOE accredited programs at the masters and doctorate level.

Degrees granted by accredited Mexican universities are considered equivalent to a Dutch or UK masters or doctorate degree and carry the same rights and privileges. Take a look here for more information: http://www.nuffic.nl/en/diploma-recognition

Transcripts issued for an IOUF “dual degree” diploma carry the Seal of The Hague and the Seal of the United States Government so graduates don’t need to go to the time, expense and paper work of getting these validations. In the unlikely event anyone runs into difficulty obtaining official recognition for the degrees they earned through the IOU Foundation, they are encouraged to connect with us directly so we can resolve the issue on their behalf.

If you are interested in exploring further how the IOUF might fit into your plans for graduate or post-graduate education, we invite you to contact us today for more information.

We have a wealth of experience in global education behind us and we are standing by to help put it all to work on your behalf.
